Although Windows 10 default settings encourage you to sign in with a Microsoft account when you are not on a domain this could mean that you’re at risk of having your password stolen.

You can protect yourself with Microsoft’s additional security features.

The extra security requires a second form of authentication in case someone tries to use your credentials on an unknown device.

To activate your extra security features:

Go to https://account.live.com/proofs/

Sign in with your Microsoft account.

Choose from the security options you require. These include:

– Two-step verification where you must provide a second proof of identity when you sign-in on an untrusted device.

– The trusted devices list where you can skip the second factor on a device you own after you successfully prove your identity.

– The recovery code which you can print, save, and keep somewhere secure.
